On Monday, October 14th, Richard Zee, Director and Founder of Solarh2e, showcased the company’s capabilities at the Austmine Green Mining Innovation Spotlight Series. The event launched Solarh2e into the spotlight of Australia’s mining and mining technology networks, introducing an innovative approach to decarbonising heavy haulage in the mining sector.
Solarh2e was founded as a joint venture between Shoal Group and Resource Unicorns Capital to address the critical challenge of reducing carbon emissions in heavy haulage, which currently accounts for approximately 35% of emissions in mining operations. As the mining industry works towards achieving its decarbonisation targets for 2030 and net-zero goals for 2050, Solarh2e is poised to lead the transformation by offering innovative electrification solutions.
Richard Zee’s presentation highlighted Solarh2e’s whole-of-system approach to electrifying haulage operations from mine to port. Leveraging Shoal Group’s advanced simulation and modelling technology, Solarh2e is able to design and optimise sustainable, economically viable electrification solutions tailored to each mining project. Solarh2e’s portfolio includes state-of-the-art Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) supported by a rapid battery-swap system, capable of fully swapping in approximately six minutes. This technology not only reduces carbon emissions but also enhances operational efficiency in the mining sector.
Through strategic investments facilitated by Resource Unicorns Capital, Solarh2e connects its electrification projects with the necessary capital, ensuring strong returns for stakeholders and advancing the decarbonisation of the mining industry. As Richard Zee explained, Solarh2e’s unique offering extends beyond technology by including a comprehensive package of services—from scoping project requirements to designing, simulating, financing, and constructing electrification solutions, along with introducing risk mitigation plans for cybersecurity.
The theme of the Green Mining Innovation Spotlight Series was ‘Exploring Electrification & Decarbonisation Trials’ and featured Solarh2e along with Carbonix, The MathWorks Australia and PR Polymers.
The event was recorded as a webinar and can be viewed here.
